News Release: Local Salon Installs Anti Bacteria Pedicure Stations

National news shows such as Primetime in the US have stirred panic amongst the millions of people who go to nail salons for pedicures. It has been reported that unsanitary pedicure stations can cause toenail fungus.

Symptoms include yellowing and thickening of the nail, streaks or spots on the nail, and even complete loss of the nail. It occurs most often on the big toe but could occur on any toe. The condition can be spread from one nail to the other.

Conventional pedicure systems have bubble jets which are difficult to disinfect. Many salons neglect the time consuming procedure of cleaning out the jet nozzles and pipes. Water from the previous client can be trapped and passed onto the next client.

Toenail fungus can also be picked up in damp areas such as public gyms, shower stalls or swimming pools, and can be passed amongst family members. Athletes and people who wear tight socks or footwear are at higher risk.

Toenail fungus is difficult to treat so prevention is the best bet.

Princess Nails, on Marine Drive in North Vancouver, has replaced the old style pedicure stations with the new clean pipeless system which can guarantee complete sanitization.

If you want to avoid toenail fungus make sure your next pedicure is booked at a progressive salon like Princess Nails. If you suspect you have toenail fungus see your foot doctor.
